A quarter acre is 10,890 square feet. The parcel that inspired this blog post was about 70 feet by 170 feet, a little bigger than a quarter acre. The below image of a football field has black dashed lines overlayed to outline approximately 12,000 square feet.
Smaller parcels like this will be closer to your neighbor, but you will typically have enough space on each side to add hedges and other plants for privacy. You might be able to get a sense of this size if you browse homes for sale in affordable neighborhoods like Ainaloa.
It’s easier to get to know your neighbors when your lot is smaller. When we visit friends here, we see kids riding their bikes and playing basketball in the streets. You could walk to the BBQ party down the street. Occasionally we even see a bake stand, which just might have fresh veggies and fruits too. Closeness also comes with being able to hear more, but we live on three acres and can still hear neighbors a couple lots down, so if you’re going for ultimate quiet you may need to go bigger.
Vacant parcels come in all sizes. Big island still has many vacant parcels available. Search available land for sale now !
